PROTEqIN is a comprehensive, internationally comparable firm-level dataset covering 14 Caribbean territories, recording firm behavior across a range of areas: sales, supplies, foreign trade and competition, innovation, conflict resolution, crime prevention, business environment and government relations, labour and skills, financing, and performance, among others. The dataset uses the World Bank Enterprise Survey methodology, making its results comparable internationally.

Background

In 2014, Compete Caribbean generated a new round of data by re-issuing the survey, updating the data on enterprises and adding variables linked to productivity, technology, and innovation (PROTEqIN) at the firm level. The PROTEqIN survey shares the bulk of its questions with the earlier LACES survey; together the two datasets comprise more than 4,000 observations. These datasets are complemented by the FINGEN data, which records finance and gender characteristics at the firm level.

What is included

The dataset is distributed across multiple resources, including the firm-level microdata (Stata .dta and CSV), a data dictionary, an equivalency table, and PDF survey description, technical report, metadata, and methodological brief documents. These supporting files allow researchers to interpret variables and replicate analysis.
