Latin America and the Caribbean Standardized Public Debt Database: Data as of December 2022

By Connectivity, Markets and Finance Division (VPS/IFD/CMF)

This database compiles up-to-date standardized statistics on sovereign debt issuances for the Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) region, with biannual data running from 2006 through December 2022. Sovereign debt data is classified by legislation, creditor, currency, and maturity, among other dimensions, for 26 countries.

Why it matters

The availability of valid, comparable, and standardized public debt data is essential for implementing sound policies in LAC countries. At the core of the LAC Debt Group initiative is the development of a standardized sovereign debt database that helps debt managers, policymakers, and other financial-market actors analyze the evolution and composition of public debt in the region and conduct cross-country comparisons.

How the data is collected

The information in this database is provided by the public debt offices of LAC countries in response to a questionnaire specifically designed to allow comparability of data. Responding to the questionnaire is non-compulsory, and it is intended to compile up-to-date standardized statistics using objective and homogeneous definitions of public debt.
