Portfolio Investment, Net
Portfolio Investment, Net is the net value of cross-border transactions in equity and debt securities that do not confer significant control or influence over enterprises (typically holdings of less than 10% of voting power). It combines both inflows (foreign purchases of domestic securities) and outflows (domestic purchases of foreign securities) and is recorded in the financial account of the balance of payments; the precise definition and coverage may vary across countries. This Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) indicator is part of the Latin Macro Watch, the IDB's harmonized macroeconomic database for Latin America and the Caribbean.
