What do we know about the effects of improved access to electricity? Does the research tell a unified story? To answer these questions, this brief examines 50 impact evaluation studies, focusing on the effects of electrification on education, labor, and income indicators. Overall, the literature finds substantial welfare gains, which tend to be greatest for women and small firms. On average, electrification leads increases of around 7% in school enrollment, 25% in employment, and 30% in incomes. However, the estimates vary widely, with many studies finding no effects, indicating weak links in the empirical literature. This review suggests that addressing the sources of such variance could be a means to fill the persistent knowledge gaps and to improve the effectiveness of electrification policies.

This dataset is the result of an experiment conducted in nine countries in Latin America and the Caribbean and published as the book "A Better World for Migrants in Latin America and the Caribbean". This project is joint work between the IDB and UNDP. The databases contain data collected for the impact evaluation of an intervention designed to explore which mechanisms are more effective in changing people's beliefs and attitudes toward migrants. The experiment was conducted in nine countries in Latin America and the Caribbean and consisted of two video interventions. The first video, the informative video, aimed to correct misinformation about the impact of migration by providing accurate information about the size of the migrant population and its characteristics. The second video, an emotive video, intended to appeal to the emotions and empathy of the local population.

The IDB/Cornell Coronavirus Survey collects information related to labor market impacts, food security, social distancing, and knowledge of the Covid-19 pandemic through an online survey. The main modules of the questionnaire were standardized across countries to allow data to be pooled and cross-country comparisons to be made. The survey was launched in the first country on March 27, 2020, and most responses were collected during April 2020. Participants were recruited through social media using paid advertising campaigns. The data consists entirely of responses to an online survey and therefore does not collect information on the most vulnerable people, who are likely to lack access to the internet or social media. However, the survey contains information for people from different social strata and subnational regions. In this sense, the data are useful for analyzing different patterns by socioeconomic groups within a country and between countries. The data include weights to...
