Private Consumption

Private Consumption is the value of final goods and services purchased by households and non-profit institutions serving households, measured within a country's borders during a given period. As the largest component of aggregate demand in most economies, it is a core national-accounts indicator of domestic demand and household welfare. This Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) indicator is part of the Latin Macro Watch, the IDB's harmonized macroeconomic database for Latin America and the Caribbean.

Coverage

Data are available for 16 countries across Latin America and the Caribbean at annual and quarterly frequency, covering 1990–2026. Values can be viewed in millions of domestic currency or USD, as a percentage of GDP, PPP-adjusted, in constant prices (national-accounts deflator), or seasonally adjusted, with year-over-year (YoY %) and quarter-over-quarter (QoQ %) growth-rate transformations.

Figures are compiled from official national statistics agencies, including INEGI - Mexico, INDEC - Argentina, Instituto de Pesquisa Econômica Aplicada, Instituto Nacional de Estadística e Informática de Perú, and INEC - Panamá, among other statistics institutes in the region.
